Liliana Alonso Maya

Senior Programs Manager

Liliana serves as ABC’s Senior Programs Manager and is responsible for effective programming with ABC’s parent network and civic engagement that highlights the intersection of the organization’s programs and policy advocacy.

Liliana leads the programs teams work to increase civic engagement through Integrated Voter Engagement (IVE) strategies, the Parent Academy advocacy workshops, ABC’s Latinx Professional Network, COVID-19 response and recovery programs, and related projects that align with ABC’s mission of improving the economic prosperity of the Los Angeles Latina/o community.

For 15 years Liliana has been advocating for underrepresented  populations, including undocumented youth, Latina/o parents, and young adults, to have equal access to higher education. She was part of CHIRLA’s CA Dream Network from 2008 to 2011, and a volunteer with DREAM Team L.A from 2011 to 2017. She has previously worked in developing family engagement programs, adult literacy programs, and youth civic engagement curriculum with various non-profit organizations in the Los Angeles region including South Central Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, and the San Fernando Valley.

Originally from Estado de Mexico, Mexico, Liliana has resided in South Central Los Angeles for 30 years. Liliana’s lived experiences have been her motivation to advocate for change to address the historic systemic oppression of Latina/o and low-income communities.  She holds a B.A. in Political Science and would some day like to return to school to study public policy in a graduate program.

Before working in the policy advocacy space, Liliana obtained a Culinary Arts Degree at Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC), which inspired her work to advocate for community colleges, trade, and vocational programs. She loves cooking the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinner for her family. Liliana is the oldest of many little cousins and enjoys taking them on college tours across California, going on field trips to museums and the Los Angeles Central Library, and exposing them to the culinary world.
