Alliance for a Better Community (ABC) celebrates a major budget victory: a $5.1 million allocation to support community-based organizations in financial aid outreach and application assistance for current and prospective community college students. This investment recognizes the critical role organizations play in helping students access the resources they need to pursue a higher education. ABC is proud to have advocated for this win in the fight for college access and affordability.
In the mid-1990s, a group of Latina/o civic and business leaders formed the “Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club” to address policy challenges facing L.A.’s Latina/o community. Recognizing the need for a stronger, unified voice, they created Alliance for a Better Community (ABC) to promote a pro-active Latina/o agenda within City Hall, the County, LA Unified, the media and other public and influential entities to respond to the needs of the region’s largest and fastest growing population. Many of the initial Breakfast Club leaders became ABC’s founding board members and remain involved today.
Alliance for a Better Community is advancing social, economic, racial equity and justice for the Latina/o community and the Los Angeles region through power building and policy advocacy.
