SUMMARY:Zocalo Housing Crisis in Los Angeles
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Zócalo to discuss the Housing Crisis in Los Angeles County and its impact on the Latino/a community. As rents soar and affordable options dwindle\, many families face displacement\, while the unhoused community struggles to access resources. Expert speakers will explore systemic challenges\, offer potential solutions\, and advocate for equitable housing policies. \n\n\n\nABC’s Zócalo takes inspiration from the Zócalo in Mexico City\, known as the main ceremonial center in the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan. It has been a gathering place for the community since the era of the Aztec empire\, having been the site of ceremonies\, the swearing-in of elected leaders\, royal proclamations\, and independence celebrations\, among others. In this same spirit\, ABC’s Zócalo series will serve as a place to gather\, celebrate\, learn\, experience art and culture\, and create spaces for meaningful discussions on key issues.

SUMMARY:The Latino/a Scorecard Report: A Policy Roadmap for Transforming Los Angeles Launch Event
DESCRIPTION:On July 28 and 29\, Alliance for a Better Community will launch The Latino/a Scorecard Report: A Policy Roadmap for Transforming Los Angeles\, which highlights the opportunities and challenges facing Latino/as in Los Angeles County. The report establishes a grade/score in five issue areas: education\, health\, public safety\, economic prosperity\, and civic engagement. These grades are based on indicators and data collected by our university partners: USC Price Center for Social Innovation\, LMU’s Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles\, and UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. \n\n\n\nCoupled with accompanying policy recommendations\, the report intends to guide advocacy and campaigns for addressing the opportunity gaps that have acted as barriers to allowing Latino/as in Los Angeles from fully thriving. \n\n\n\nThis report comes after the 2003 Latino Scorecard: Grading the American Dream\, created by ABC together with United Way of Greater Los Angeles. This initial report took an important step in examining data\, perceptions\, and implications surrounding the Latino/a community and put knowledge to work to surface one critical and fundamental idea: to take action. \n\n\n\nThough improvements have been made over the last 18 years\, these improvements have not been sufficient to enable all Latino/as to fully thrive. During this pandemic\, we are seeing the devastating impacts further exacerbated on our families\, our communities\, and our economy. We must ensure the gains made over the last 20 years are not lost\, but rather maximized so that we can move towards an inclusive recovery and ensure an equitable Los Angeles we all deserve. \n\n\n\nAlliance for a Better Community seeks to build long-term power and strategic repositioning of the Latino/a community in Los Angeles County through The Latino/a Scorecard Report to draw attention to where investments must be made to respond to the Latino/a needs. The Latino/a Scorecard Report will be a valuable tool for research\, policy\, advocacy\, communications and accountability.  \n\n\n\nThe time to highlight both our achievements and the need for substantial investment is now. \n\n\n\nJuly 28\, 9am to 12pm:Welcome\, Keynote Speaker\, Process of ReportPanel: Health \n\n\n\nJuly 29\, 9am to 12:30 pm:Panel A: Civic Engagement & Public SafetyPanel B: Education & Economic Prosperity
