The “Alliance for a Better Community Higher Education Initiative” works to ensure that community college institutions in the Los Angeles region achieve the highest student success rates possible. The Council of Economic Advisers predicted that many of the fastest growing jobs will require completion of an associate’s degree or certificate program. This prediction is further echoed by the Public Policy Institute of California which calls for one million more college graduates by 2025 to ensure California’s road to economic recovery and meet its future workforce demands.
The Los Angeles Community College District is the largest community college in the nation and the state of California serving more than one hundred thirty students enrolled annually in nine colleges. About fifty percent of the student population is Latino and continues to grow every year. Student success in the largest community college in California will be critical in meeting the state’s future workforce needs and ensuring the economic vitality of the state.
