Free Tutoring for Students: ABC Media Coverage 2006

The Alliance for a Better Community organized a press event on June 21, 2006, designed to raise awareness and encourage parents to enroll their children in supplementary educational services (SES).  Conference speakers included Monica Garcia, LAUSD School Board Member, María Casillas, President, Families in Schools; Al Cortes, Assistant Superintendent of Beyond the Bell; and two parents from Utah Elementary School.  The press event was well attended by seven television cameras, two local papers and one radio station.  However, the important news was over-shadowed by the LA City Mayor’s announcement of his new LAUSD governance plan that same day and as a result received little coverage.
