A Message from Alliance for a Better Community

With the new year, the Alliance for a Better Community (ABC) Board of Directors is announcing an exciting new future for the organization.  Understanding that the important voice and representation of Latinos is more critical than ever, the Board has voted to undertake a strategic and focused new direction for ABC.  We are transitioning from direct program work to focus on strengthening our voice as an advocate for Latinos in Los Angeles County on critical issues of importance to our community, especially in education, health, civic engagement and political representation.
To move forward on this new path, ABC will focus on:
             -  Gathering and sharing key information about the state of Latinos in Los Angeles
Issuing reports and making recommendations about the quality of life for Latinos
             -  Facilitating discourse on key issues that prevent Latinos from accessing
resources that promote a thriving democratic society, such as a quality
             -  Serving as a strong advocate and voice to ensure appropriate policies and
practices are developed and implemented to benefit Latino economic mobility
                within the Los Angeles area
In the next month, we will be transitioning from the current staff structure to one of contracting with key consultants to complete the current work plan and start developing the strategic plan for the next phase of ABC.
We extend our appreciation to our Executive Director Angelica Solis for her service to ABC as she ends her time with us on January 24th.  She has made herself available to the Board, as a consultant, to ensure a smooth transition with all our community partners and sponsors.  The majority of the ABC team will remain until February 15, 2014, with Myrna Quezada overseeing the administrative details and supporting the ABC Board beyond February 15, 2014.
As ABC embarks on this next stage of advocacy on behalf of our community, we will be reaching out to you to hear your thoughts, learn from your success and share in our vision of a prosperous Los Angeles for all its residents.  Thank you for your encouragement and support.
If you have any program or administrative related questions please send your email at info@afabc.org or call at 213-744-1052.  You can also reach out to the board via info@afabc.org.  We look forward to your insights and engaging you in the next phase of ABC.
Ed Avila, Chairman of the Board             Arturo Vargas, Secretary
