A Message from Alliance for a Better Community

The Alliance for a Better Community’s (ABC) Board of Directors is excited to announce the re-launch of ABC, designed to renew our commitment to an advocacy mission on behalf of the Latino community.

In 2014, the Board underwent a strategic planning process, which further defined the role of ABC as an organization that provides insight on the type of policymaking and environment that improves the quality of life of Latinos and holds decision makers and community leaders accountable for their action or inaction to strengthen opportunity for Latinos in the county.  A summary of our new strategic plan is available here.
 

ABC will focus on the greater Los Angeles region and coalesce an alliance of leaders to serve as the “Latino Voice” on the critical issues of today. The future economic and democratic success of Los Angeles depends on an equitable opportunity for Latinos in our county. Our rallying cry is “where Latinos go, so goes LA; where LA goes, so goes California; where California goes, so goes the nation.”
 

The issues ABC has focused on in the past continue to be relevant, but need to be prioritized differently to reflect today’s challenges. Economic prosperity, the lack thereof, and growing economic disparities must be addressed. Fortunately, Los Angeles has a strong field of advocates that has grown in the areas of education, health, and civic engagement, but there is still a void for Latino advocates on comprehensive economic issues. ABC will be a coalescing force in advocating on the economic challenges facing the Latino community in Los Angeles, which are simultaneously linked and affected by educational opportunity, quality health, housing, and growing civic engagement.

As part of our re-launch, ABC is looking for a highly motivated and passionate individual to serve as the organization’s new Executive Director, responsible for its overall management and direction, implementing policies and programs as determined by the ABC Board of Directors. In addition to the implementation of ABC’s new strategic plan, responsibilities include overseeing public policy and program development and implementation; fund raising and financial management; and media relations, organizational messaging, and branding.
